|
| APPLICATION:
|
Apply Velvit
Oil to the wood surfaces, leave it penetrate 30 to 45
minutes. If it starts to dry out, apply more Velvit
Oil, but keep the surface wet at least 30 minutes. Once
it has penetrated for at least 30 minutes, start to
wet sand using 320 to 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. The
sanding action creates a paste that fills the pores
of the wood. Take a soft cloth and wipe off the excess.
Leave it dry 24 hours. Nothing else need be applied
over it.

| MAINTENANCE: |
Only pure
Lemon Oil is recommended for polishing. Silicone or
wax oils make wood susceptible to water spotting and
are affected by ultraviolet light causing darkening
of finish with age. |

Q. How is it possible to achieve deep, even color on pine wood?
A. Pine is considered a pitchy wood. This pitch or sap causes variations in the penetration of any color. It is best to select a very dry pine. We have found that by wiping pine with a cloth dampened with water prior to application of Velvit Oil, the sap is broken down and the pores opened to allow for a more even penetration of color.
Q. Is Velvit Oil a toxic substance?
A. Velvit Oil is lead free in Natural as well as all colors. In a liquid state it contains petroleum distillates. After it has cured, no toxic residues remain.
Q. Can Velvit Oil be used over other finishes.
A. Velvit Oil is made to penetrate into the wood and should only be applied on clean bare wood surfaces, either new wood or old wood which has the old finish entirely removed to allow for a complete and even penetration.
Q. Is it necessary to wet rub Velvit Oil?
A. The reason for wet rubbing is two-fold: 1. To produce a velvit smooth surface. 2. In the case of open grain woods, wet rubbing produces a paste which partially fills the open grain. If wood is finely sanded, simply apply Velvit Oil, leave penetrate and wipe off the excess. Protective qualities are not affected.
Q. How do you achieve a higher gloss?
A. If the excess Velvit Oil is wiped from the surface while it is still quite fluid, the resulting finish will be flat. Let Velvit Oil become tacky, then wipe and the finish will have a soft sheen. If additional lustre is desired, apply Velvit Oil by wiping a thin film on the cured first coat. In 10 to 15 minutes wipe off any excess that remains on the surface. You may also buff the surface with a soft cloth or lambs wool pad after cured.
Q. In finishing the wood work in a new home, what is the easiest way to apply Velvit Oil?
A. First of all be sure all of your wood is clean and finely sanded (it is best to hand or power sand with an approximately 200 grit production paper). If it is possible, apply Velvit Oil to the trim, doors, cabinets, etc., before they have been attached or hung. Allow Velvit Oil to become tacky (about 1 hour), then wipe off the excess material. At this point you may cut and nail up trim. No need to worry about dust. Leave cure for 24 hours and reapply Velvit Oil with a cloth to add additional lustre, repair scratches and cover end cuts. Only a very thin application is needed. Follow, after 10 minutes, with a dry cloth to wipe off excess.
Q. Does Velvit Oil give the kind of protection that is needed in kitchens and windows?
A. Because Velvit Oil contains a very high amount of solids and has the ability to penetrate these solids deep into the wood, the greatest amount of protection available is contained in this product. In the curing process, the wood fibers are actually bonded together and become approximately 25% harder. Velvit Oil will resist water as well as many household chemicals and abrasion. There is no need to use other finishes although Velvit Oil will accept them after cured.
Q. Is it difficult to repair damaged areas finished with Velvit Oil?
A. No, a Velvit Oil finish is the easiest to repair. Simply apply a small amount of oil to a scratch or mar, leave penetrate and wipe off excess material. Because Velvit Oil is in the wood, you will never have lap marks. If mar is deep, wet rub with Velvit Oil and wet or dry paper.
